Masthead 2

ExtendTime'sTM optional speech verification feature, captures the unique physical characteristics of the human voice to verify the identity of individual employees as they attempt to clock in and out of the ExtendTimeTM labor management system.

The age-old problem of employees clocking in as each other is called “Buddy-Punching”. According to the American Payroll Association, “Buddy-Punching” accounts for up to 5 percent of gross payroll costs. By introducing Trident’s Speech Verification Biometric feature into their time management systems, different organizations can immediately eradicate the practice of Buddy-Punching. This will lead to a significant reduction in payroll costs while maintaining the same productivity levels.

Product Overview

Using speech verification, it is possible to confirm the identity of a person based on the individual’s unique voice biometric characteristics. The speech verification feature of Trident allows an easy-to-use, unobtrusive, and cost-effective mechanism for authenticating users by means of a Cisco IP phone. This Trident feature eliminates the need to collect employee fingerprints or their hand geometry. The speech verification feature can be applied either randomly or at every time an employee accesses ExtendTimeTM.

The log-in process is initiated once employees enter their employee number and optional password through the Cisco phone. If an employee is selected for speech verification, a message will appear on the phone’s display stating the requirement for authentication and instructing the employee to pick up the handset, once the phone starts to ring. Next, the employee will be instructed to speak a pass phrase into the phone. This voice is then compared to a pre-recorded wav file of the individual employee’s voice. On the basis of this comparison, the employee is either allowed to continue or is denied access to the application.

In sum, the speech verification feature of ExtendTimeTM has the following benefits:

  1. Encourages customer investment in Cisco IP technology.
  2. Ensures the integrity of employee time management practices.
  3. Eliminates the need to purchase and maintain expensive biometric devices.
  4. Eliminates the need to collect employee fingerprints.
